<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>In many indoor security and rescue missions, it is essential for the deployed personnel to have accurate positioning information available. If the scene is not explored yet, a map has to be created during the mission and exchanged between different teams, so that subsequent intruders benefit from the knowledge about previously visited locations. In this paper, the multi-sensor navigation system called IndoorGuide is presented which accomplishes this task. It comprises two lightweight micro-electro-mechanical inertial measurement units for tracking the motion of the user. A monocular camera is integrated in the navigation system which provides attitude and position aiding. The attitude information is extracted by tracking vanishing points in the images of the camera. Position aiding is realized by mapping and recognizing visited locations. For the data fusion, a Kalman Filter and a robust optimization technique based on graphs are compared. Results from experimental test runs are presented and discussed.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Multi-Sensor Navigation System</kwd><kwd>Indoor Navigation</kwd><kwd>Vision-Aided Navigation</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Foxlin, E., Pedestrian Tracking with Shoe-Mounted Inertial Sensors, IEEE Computer Society Press, 2005, pp. 38--46.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Foxlin, E., Pedestrian Tracking with Shoe-Mounted Inertial Sensors, IEEE Computer Society Press, 2005, pp. 38--46.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit2"><label>2</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Ojeda, L. and Borenstein, J., Personal Dead-Reckoning System for GPS–Denied Environments, IEEE Proceedings of the International Workshop of Safety, Security and Rescue Robotics, Rome, 2007.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Ojeda, L. and Borenstein, J., Personal Dead-Reckoning System for GPS–Denied Environments, IEEE Proceedings of the International Workshop of Safety, Security and Rescue Robotics, Rome, 2007.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit3"><label>3</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Kessler, C., Ascher, C., Frietsch, N., Weinmann, M, and Trommer, G.F., Vision-Based Attitude Estimation for Indoor Navigation Using Vanishing Points and Lines, IEEE / ION PLANS 2010 Conf., 2010.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Kessler, C., Ascher, C., Frietsch, N., Weinmann, M, and Trommer, G.F., Vision-Based Attitude Estimation for Indoor Navigation Using Vanishing Points and Lines, IEEE / ION PLANS 2010 Conf., 2010.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit4"><label>4</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Shin, S.H., et al.
